Latakia, a coastal city hosting Syria's most significant port, has approximately three hundred thousand inhabitants. Since the beginning of the Syrian conflict in 2011, it has continuously welcomed thousands of displaced individuals fleeing from frontline areas. Many of these individuals come from Idlib, a region particularly affected by the conflict and still contested.

At the Franciscan convent in Latakia, Pro Terra Sancta has established an Emergency Center to assist local families with expenses they can no longer afford due to the dramatic conflict situation. The Center is responsible for distributing food and essential goods, medicines, vouchers for purchasing diesel, clothing, detergents, hygiene products, and items for infants. Approximately 1,200 families have been supported through the distribution of food items, and we have distributed over 4,000 hygiene kits just in 2023.

In collaboration with AVSI and the apostolic nunciature of Damascus, a medical dispensary has been activated within the Center, which distributes medicines and covers medical expenses, specialist examinations, and surgical operations, benefiting approximately 630 people. Additionally, there is a referral system to other medical facilities and direct contact with doctors and specialists.

The Center pays particular attention to children and their education. In addition to distributing diapers and powdered milk, Pro Terra Sancta regularly purchases school supplies to replenish schools and offers psychological support activities: young people are offered art, sports, and cooking workshops involving specialized teachers and staff. Nearly 100 children and families have received psychological assistance.

The Association has also dedicated a program for women's employment reintegration. Funds are allocated to support new entrepreneurial activities promoted and managed by women to favor the sustenance of the poorest families. To date, 96 female entrepreneurial projects have been financed through the Center.
