context & objective
Bethlehem is placed under the control of the Palestinian Authority, on the border with the territories controlled by Israel. The districts of the two warring regimes are separated by a wall, and freedom of movement and trade are severely restricted in the city. Young people and women pay the highest price of conflict, economic precariousness and forced immobility: the unemployment rate increases especially among these social components, and more than 30% of individuals suffer from psychological and social disorders.Pro Terra Sancta is committed in Bethlehem to address the material and relational needs of these fragile sections of the population. As a result, the Association established the Dar al-Majus Community Home center near the Basilica of the Nativity, at a location that honors the legacy of the Magi, as the project's name suggests. The 'Community Home' Dar al-Majus is divided into three sections. A listening and support area, where doctors and social workers provide practical psychological assistance, particularly to young people; a vocational training area, to address the endemic scourge of unemployment and encourage young and female entrepreneurs; and a cultural area, where educational courses are offered.
