Training and quality craftsmanship: Association pro Terra Sancta and the Mosaic Centre Jericho meet with two Milanese foundations
On 22 and 23 September Carla Benelli, coordinator of cultural and training projects for Association pro Terra Sancta, Tommaso Saltini, the director of the Association, and Osama Hamdan, President of Mosaic Centre Jericho, will meet in Milan with the managers of two foundations that deal with quality craftsmanship. The first is the Fondazione Giovanni e Irene Cova, founded in 1990 with the aim of training young people in the technical and artistic fields, in particular through courses and training activities in various fields including ceramic decoration. The second is the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte. Its initiatives, aimed at a “new Renaissance” for arts and crafts, seek to train new generations of Masters of Arts, thus helping to save the crafts of excellence from the risk of disappearing which menaces them. The objective of the meeting with these two foundations is to request cooperation and a mutual exchange of experience. Association pro Terra Sancta and the Mosaic Centre Jericho have in fact carried out a number of of activities in the Holy Land to train restorers, mosaic artists and craftsmen, including youths from East Jerusalem who are engaged in restoration activities on the Mount of Olives, and young people from Sabastiya who for years have been involved in activities for training and enhancement of the local historical heritage. In particular, during this meeting, a request will be made to the two foundations for support for the ceramics course that Association pro Terra Sancta and Mosaic Centre Jericho will be carrying out in Sabastiya, with the help of a contribution from the Fondation Assistance Internationale (FAI) in Lugano (Switzerland).
